Will Daniel Ricciardo go to McLaren ?

Ricciardo Abiteboul over

McLaren Racing announced on Thursday that it has signed Daniel Ricciardo with a multi-year agreement to compete for the team in the Formula One World Championship starting in 2021. Ricciardo, 30, of Perth, Australia, will join Great Britain’s Lando Norris, 20, who will start his third season at McLaren in 2021. Carlos Sainz will leave the team at the end of the 2020 season after two years with McLaren. The Spaniard will race in Ferrari.

Zak Brown, CEO of McLaren Racing:

Signing Daniel is another step forward in our long-term plan and will bring an exciting new dimension to the team, along with Lando. This is good news for our team, partners and, of course, our fans.

I also want to pay tribute to Carlos for the excellent work he has been doing for McLaren in helping our performance recovery plan. He is a true team player and we wish him well for his future beyond McLaren

Zak Brown, CEO

Andreas Seidl, team manager, McLaren F1:

Daniel is a proven race winner and his experience, commitment and energy will be a valuable addition to McLaren and our mission to return to the forefront of the field. With Daniel and Lando as teammates, I believe we have two riders who will continue to excite our fans and help the team grow.

Carlos is a true professional, a pleasure to work with and we will continue to enjoy competing with him this year. We all wish you good luck for the next stage of your career when you leave McLaren

Cyril Abiteboul attacks Ricciardo after McLaren transfer is confirmed

Cyril Abiteboul, head of the Renault F1 team, was not happy with the arrival of his star driver, Daniel Ricciardo, at McLaren. At least that is what he said in a statement in which the French manufacturer acknowledged that negotiations with the Australian manufacturer to extend its contract had failed.

In our sport, and particularly with the extraordinary situation we are living in, mutual trust, unity and commitment are, more than ever, key values in a factory team

Cyril Abiteboul, team manager

It is the dart that the French manager has thrown directly to the Australian, whose contract with the brand of the rhombus ended this season.

I am confident that the 2020 season will allow us to achieve more successes together. Our ambitions and strategy as a team remain unchanged

Cyril Abiteboul, team manager

Ricci, after making his move to McLaren official in 2021, has sent a message to his current team on social networks.

I am grateful to the Renault team for the welcome they have given me.

I am looking forward to getting back on the grill this year, my next one has not arrived yet, so let’s finish this one strong.

Daniel Ricciardo, F1 driver

The Renault team, facing the 2021 season, is ‘lame’; as only Esteban Ocón – who signed for two years last August – has the steering wheel assured. That position will be one of the most coveted in the coming weeks, unless Mercedes joins the ‘party’ .
